A garden is not only a sea of fruits and a beautiful recreation area, but also a lot of effort. To maintain a garden or create a new one, you’ll need a range of tools, from lawn mowers to garden hoses or other tools.
Our team of specialists decided to compile a list of tools that you will need first.
After all, when you have everything for the garden, all that remains is to work and enjoy the result. Take note of our proposed list:
Garden tools for tillage
1. Garden shovel (its types)
You should choose one with a hardened aluminum or stainless steel blade so that it is durable and will not bend or deteriorate when exposed to moisture.
The handle of the shovel should be comfortable, grippy and appropriate for your height. The handle is usually made of wood; it is pleasant to hold in the hand and does not slip.
Types of shovels
- Bayonet. It is straight with a rounded cutting edge and is better suited for gardening work. Used for digging and making holes.
- Rectangular shovel. It looks like a large spoon and is convenient for transferring soil from place to place.
A fork and trowel act as a replacement for a shovel for various types of summer work.
- It is convenient to dig with a pitchfork, pulling out long roots from the ground; they do not need to be cut off and removed in parts. This saves time and effort, and the pitchfork is also good for aerating the soil.
- A trowel is smaller than a shovel, although it performs similar functions. It is easy to handle, requires less effort, because it is much lighter: the material for it is most often glass fiber reinforced polyamide. Useful everywhere, including on rocky areas.

2. Rakes and weeding tools
Also a famous instrument. Everyone held a rake in their hands, raking leaves or leveling the area after digging. Rakes are also used to add fertilizer to the soil.
They come in larger and smaller sizes, and the number of teeth they have may vary.
- Wide rakes are used in open areas where there is room for sweeping. Small ones with 7 teeth are used where it is tight and you have to squeeze into narrow places.
- Sometimes inexperienced gardeners are tempted to purchase rakes with replaceable attachments that are commercially available. But the problem is that these attachments are made of short-lived and not very durable plastic and will quickly fail.

Tools for pruning plants in the garden
They are needed if trees and bushes grow on your site. And since most likely you have them, you need to have the necessary tools to put their crowns in order.
Also, timely pruning can regulate the growth rate, fruit size and harvest volume.
Tools for this purpose:
- garden shears for trimming bushes;
- hand saw for removing particularly thick branches;
- scissors, which are a universal tool;

Tools for watering plants
The two main tools that are actively involved in watering are hoses and a drip irrigation system.
1. Drip irrigation system
It is used both for watering and for spraying with herbicides. They have two different functions and should be assigned different watering zones in the garden. Those that have been in contact with herbicides should be excluded from regular watering.
Sometimes hot water is required for irrigation. You can place a water tank in the sun and use that water.
2. Hose
Of course, this is a necessary means for watering, especially if there is a large area. There are rubber or PVC-polyvinyl chloride, single-layer and multi-layer hoses.
It is better not to buy single-layer hoses; they tear and tear very easily.
Multilayer hoses are much stronger and more convenient, and their service life is much longer. But they also have their weak point: when exposed to direct sunlight, they lose their original elasticity and fade.
Rubber hoses are frost-resistant, practically impervious to temperature changes and flexible. However, they can be toxic if they use low quality rubber.
Therefore, when purchasing a rubber hose, you need to choose a reliable manufacturer with a reliable reputation.
If you came to buy a hose, then you know the required length. Don’t take it end to end, it’s better to take it a few meters with a margin, so that you don’t have to suffer later trying to get to a distant place.
It is better to buy a hose with a fitting, so it is easier to connect it to a water source. If, in addition to the hose, there are removable nozzles for spraying water, then they will not be superfluous.
And be sure to pay attention to how flexible the hose is, what water pressure it is designed for, and whether there are any kinks or defects on it.

In the garden and dacha you need not only to relax and enjoy nature, but also to work. Only in this case will you be proud of your result.
And to achieve it you need the right and reliable tools.
